Featuring 168 simultaneous input channels and 99 time-aligned and phase-coherent mix buses, the Midas PRO X sets a new performance benchmark in high-profile live sound applications. It is a truly impressive digital control surface for the engineer whose very livelihood depends on both unparalleled functionality and reliability.
We had a quick chat with Mr. Bruno Vitanza, Projects Engineer and Owner of Subsonic, to tell us more about their latest purchase and their partnership with PRO LAB:
PRO LAB: What are the unique features that you like about Midas PRO X?
BRUNO: For a start, the sonic transparency. I know it has been said a lot, but it is hard to make a band sound dirty with the PRO X. Although there are other console’s workflows that we have gotten used to, we have now begun to see the deeper logic with the Midas workflow. For example, with patching/routing, you patch everything as if it were analog, using an imaginary cable. This easily lets you see at a glance what is going where, in comparison to the popular alternative of grids and small dots! Lastly, the Midas’s PRO X rock-solid build quality is impressive.
P: Can you consider this new equipment as a ‘game-changer’ in the AV scene?
B: Well, the PRO X has been in the market for a while, we predict that the game changer will be the new Midas Heritage-D — we can’t wait to get our hands on it.
P: How has your business benefitted from this latest acquisition?
B: We had a number of broadcast projects where audio needed to be distributed across a football stadium to various locations, and the IO and routing enabled us to route audio to all the areas easily.
P: What are the other products that you’ve acquired from PRO LAB?
B: Well, starting with the PRO X, which we literally maxed out, we purchased, Neutron, Neutron NB, 2x KT-MADI, 2x KT-Dante, 2x KT-AES-50, several Midas Pro stage boxes and AES-50 Fiber Extenders (2ch and 8ch), various I/O Cards for the PRO X, DI Boxes and more. In short, we managed to max out our PRO X, with all ports and slots full! Also, more M32’s.
P: What do you like most about them?
B: When routing massive amounts of I/O, the system is very straight forward and simple.
P: How has PRO LAB addressed your needs and met your requirements?
B: PRO LAB has been incredibly supportive, and thanks to their support we have managed to expand. The availability of MIDAS inventory and accessories has often helped us solve tricky requests, and if they don’t have an item in stock, they bend over backward to make sure it arrives in time for our show. PRO LAB’s flexibility and willingness to help is reassuring; this allows us to take on challenging projects confidently, knowing that PRO LAB is there to support us.
P: What would you like to say to all the audio enthusiasts out there?
B: Although the marriage of Behringer & Midas some years ago was met with a few raised eyebrows, it’s been amazing to see how the two development teams have added to the Midas range of products such as the M32, which for the RRP is one of the most feature-packed and easy to use consoles ever made in our opinion. We currently have the PRO X available for hands-on training and practice in our comfortable studio at DIP for every interested sound engineer in UAE to become familiar with it. All they have to do is book the studio, and the console is theirs for up to 8 hours with multitrack recordings to practice mixing, patching and anything they wish.
The MIDAS PRO Series family moves up a gear with the PRO X control center and the industry-changing NEUTRON Audio System Engine. Like all PRO Series consoles, the PRO X features managed latency and 40-bit floating point processing precision. HyperMAC and AES50 audio networking technologies allow the PRO X to dynamically assign up to 288 inputs and 294 outputs at 96 kHz sampling rate to any of its input channels and bus outputs on a scene-by-scene basis.
This high level of connectivity, coupled with the large channel and bus counts, makes the PRO X equally at home in theaters and symphony halls as it is in live concert touring, outside broadcast and music festivals.
